Jersey Taekwondo
Korean Martial Art World & Olympic Sport
Classes are open to all ages and for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
Under the auspices of the World Taekwondo Federation, distinct that is from the ITF code, Taekwondo has matured into an Olympic sport that defines and takes speed, timing, accuracy and fighting spirit to a whole new level.
WTF Taekwondo is uniquely placed, as it provides an educational process underpinned by the traditional values of discipline and respect.
And through its martial arts roots and recent Korean history, WTF Taekwondo has developed into a dynamic system practiced by over 60 million people across 194 countries.
With "Tae" meaning to jump, kick or smash with the feet; and with "Kwon" meaning to block, punch, strike or smash with the hand or fist; and "Do" meaning art or way... thus Taekwondo is the kick-punch-art [of unarmed self-defence].
Not only does it enhance fitness and physical conditioning, but WTF Taekwondo promotes mental training and moral development, in turn building confidence and spirit.
WTF Taekwondo is an approach to life, and our aim is to provide a platform for everyone to enjoy the benefits of the art as a whole, as stylised by the Kukkiwon in Seoul.

Students of Jersey (Chungdokwan) Taekwondo thus practice a developmental syllabus focusing on “Kukki” Taekwondo and the essences of the art, incorporating basics, poomsae, self-defence breaking and sparring, guided and influenced by the core tenets: Etiquette; Modesty; Perseverance; Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.
Moreover, Olympic Taekwondo, or Kyorugi [sparring], is encouraged and cultivated from the outset with a view to developing the students' fighting and self-defence skills, which compliments the traditional syllabus and is an integral element of WTF Taekwondo training, yet the degree and intensity is well controlled and is determined by level of experience.

As the first founding school in Korea, and since 1944, the Chung Do Kwan has propagated WTF Taekwondo worldwide, and through Taekwondo Chungdokwan Great Britain, alongside British Taekwondo, opportunities abound for students to attend seminars and to compete in Poomsae [patterns] and Kyorugi, if they so wish.

And as the governing body for WTF Taekwondo in the UK and the British Territories, British Taekwondo has its own Academy in England for elite and budding athletes aiming to make the GB Team.
